Description
This miniature etching by artist John Anthony Miller measures 2 inches X 1-1/2 inches high yet has an incredible amount of detail from the weathervane at the top of the house to the curtains and even a figure of a girl peeking from one of the windows. This is an original engraving/etching in the first state the artist created in 1981. The artist also Hand-Printed, and hand etched the image on 16 gauge copperplate.
This image specific image was one of many proudly displayed at The Carnegie Art Museum years ago as a retrospective exhibit of the Artist John Anthony Miller's work. This specific image is from the artist own personal collection and
one of seven artist's proofs. The intaglio was signed by the artist and titled as
seen. This edition sold
out quickly, and the artist took it into a second state with a very dark background and a
grandma figure on the porch. It also sold out of one hundred prints. In this one
you can see the girls at the windows, the weather-vane with the N, S, E, W on it
and other details. The artist states "I seem to have been the only person anywhere who could do
this kind of detail on an etching or engraving". There may be someone out there
who can, perhaps. This one, given the importance of the detail, it being the
first state, and historical date is desirable. Intaglio is
in beautiful condition, the frame has some wear from the exhibit and storage,
the back paper cover has some punctures in the paper as shown.
